Painting and Photograpy haram in Islam

Painting is haram in Islam. Drawing a picture of human or animal or even keeping a printed picture of any Human or Animal in your house is a haram.

Muslims say that it is haram to draw anything that has life in it like humans and animals. Just because you cannot put life into it thats why you should not draw it.
Muhammad cursed painters and said that whoever makes a picture of a living thing (humans or animals) will be punished severely by Allah and will be asked to put life into it.
Even keeping toys is haram because toys are 3-dimentional images and you will see the proof in the later part of this article when Muhammad allowed Aisha to play with dolls only because she was a kid and didn't reach the age of puberty.

Muslims say you can draw things which doesn't have life in it like stone, mountains, rivers etc. They say you can even draw trees and scenery.
But the problem is that trees also have life, Just like humans and animals trees also grow and at the end die. They feel pain if cut, though their level of feeling pain is less than other higher beings like humans. Plants turn towards sunlight they respond to external stimuli.

There are Hadiths confirming that panting is haram.

 Sahih Bukhari Volume 3, Book 34, Number 299 | Volume 3, Book 34, Number 440
Narrated by 'Aun bin Abu Juhaifa
My father bought a slave who practiced the profession of cupping. (My father broke the slave's instruments of cupping). I asked my father why he had done so. He replied, "The Prophet forbade the acceptance of the price of a dog or blood, and also forbade the profession of tattooing, getting tattooed and receiving or giving Riba, (usury), and cursed the picture-makers."

Sahih Bukhari Volume 3, Book 34, Number 318 | Volume 7, Book 72, Number 840Volume 7, Book 72, Number 844
Narrated by Aisha
(mother of the faithful believers) I bought a cushion with pictures on it. When Allah's Apostle saw it, he kept standing at the door and did not enter the house. I noticed the sign of disgust on his face, so I said, "O Allah's Apostle! I repent to Allah and H is Apostle . (Please let me know) what sin I have done." Allah's Apostle said, "What about this cushion?" I replied, "I bought it for you to sit and recline on." Allah's Apostle said, "The painters (i.e. owners) of these pictures will be punished on the Day of Resurrection. It will be said to them, 'Put life in what you have created (i.e. painted).' " The Prophet added, "The angels do not enter a house where there are pictures."

Sahih Bukhari  Volume 7, Book 72, Number 846
Narrated by Ibn 'Abbas
I heard Muhammad saying, "Whoever makes a picture in this world will be asked to put life into it on the Day of Resurrection, but he will not be able to do so."

Muslims say that you can create pictures of trees, and plants but you cannot draw anything that has life in it like humans and animals because Allah will ask on the day of judgement that put life in what you have created.
But sadly in those days no one knew that Plants and Trees are living things which has been proven by science today. Plants and trees also grow and at the end die like humans and animals.
Going my Islamic logic; If any Muslim draws Trees and Plants then won't he be punished ? In that case won't Allah ask Put life in what you have created ie; trees and plants.

I saw one Muslims asking this question in an Islamic forum.

While I was with Ibn 'Abbas a man came and said, "O father of 'Abbas! My sustenance is from my manual profession and I make these pictures." Ibn 'Abbas said, "I will tell you only what I heard from Allah's Apostle . I heard him saying, 'Whoever makes a picture will be punished by Allah till he puts life in it, and he will never be able to put life in it.' " Hearing this, that man heaved a sigh and his face turned pale. Ibn 'Abbas said to him, "What a pity! If you insist on making pictures I advise you to make pictures of trees and any other unanimated objects."

I stuffed for the Prophet a pillow decorated with pictures (of animals) which looked like a Namruqa (i.e. a small cushion). He came and stood among the people with excitement apparent on his face. I said, "O Allah's Apostle! What is wrong?" He said, "What is this pillow?" I said, "I have prepared this pillow for you, so that you may recline on it." He said, "Don't you know that angels do not enter a house wherein there are pictures; and whoever makes a picture will be punished on the Day of Resurrection and will be asked to give life to (what he has created)?"

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 110

(the wife of the Prophet) I bought a cushion having on it pictures (of animals). When Allah's Apostle saw it, he stood at the door and did not enter. I noticed the sign of disapproval on his face and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I repent to Allah and His Apostle. What sin have I committed?' Allah's Apostle said. "What is this cushion?" I said, "I have bought it for you so that you may sit on it and recline on it." Allah's Apostle said, "The makers of these pictures will be punished on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to them, 'Give life to what you have created (i.e., these pictures).' " The Prophet added, "The Angels of (Mercy) do not enter a house in which there are pictures (of animals)."

Allah's Apostle returned from a journey when I had placed a curtain of mine having pictures over (the door of) a chamber of mine. When Allah's Apostle saw it, he tore it and said, "The people who will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection will be those who try to make the like of Allah's creations." So we turned it (i.e., the curtain) into one or two cushions.

I heard Allah's Apostle saying; "Angels (of Mercy) do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or a picture of a living creature (a human being or an animal)."

Sayyiduna Jabir narrates that the Messenger of Allah  forbade the keeping of pictures at home and making them." (Sunan Tirmidhi, no: 1749)

Muhammad also said that angels do not enter a house in which there is a Picture of human or animal.

According to Islam Muslims cannot keep any drawn or printed photo of humans or animals which includes printed or drawn photographs or their family members.

Muslims say that small children who haven't hit puberty can draw anything because Muhammad allowed his child wife Aisha to play with dolls because she was small. This is the reason which they give.
Sahih Bukhari Volume 8, Book 73, Number 151 :
Narrated by 'Aisha
I used to play with the dolls in the presence of the Prophet, and my girl friends also used to play with me. When Allah's Apostle used to enter (my dwelling place) they used to hide themselves, but the Prophet would call them to join and play with me. (The playing with the dolls and similar images is forbidden, but it was allowed for 'Aisha at that time, as she was a little girl, not yet reached the age of puberty.) (Fateh-al-Bari page 143, Vol.13)

Now what about the Muslims who want to grow up and become artists / painters. Looks like painting is haram for the God in Quran.
Making cartoons or anything that is human or animal like is haram.

Muhammad did not differentiate between images that had shadows (3-dimentional eg. toys) or paintings which are 2 dimensional.
So even keeping toys are haram in Islam, only exception is for small kids who haven't reached the age of puberty just because Muhammad allowed Aisha to play with toys when she was small.
Keeping  three-dimensional images are haram

See even Islamic website agrees with me, I am not fabricating anything they also have the same view.
http://www.islamqa.info/en/ref/20325

It is haram in Islam to hung photos of kings, ministers, scholars, superstars in respect because it involves exaggeration about a created being.
Those that are hung up for the sake of memory, such as hanging up pictures of one's friends or family member is also haram. See the above verses from hadith that I posted, it is clearly mentioned in many of them that "Angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture" .

In case of digital photography the position of the overwhelming majority of Indo-Pak and some Arab scholars is that photographs of human or animal life are not permissible for the very same reasons that paintings of these are not permissible
Those scholars who say that digital photography is permissible give the reason that, Photography is the reflection of light on a subject which is captured on a mirror within the camera and then onto film and it is different.
But most of the pictures of today are printed pictures. These printed pictures are made by ink on paper - there is no concept of reflection whatsoever. Like  pictures on various newspapers and magazines. So it means newspapers and Magazines are also haram. Looks like very thing is haram in Islam.
